Founded in 1897, it's one of the oldest tournaments in tennis and the first big clay event of the year. It's unusual in not being mandatory on the ATP calendar, yet its history, prestige and setting keep the best players coming. It's an ATP-only event (no WTA).
The Monte-Carlo Country Club actually sits just over the border in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, on the edge of Monaco, with courts terraced above the sea. Nice is the nearest airport (about 30–40 minutes), with the whole Riviera on your doorstep.
Tickets are sold by day through the official tournament channels. Early-week days offer the most matches and the widest access across the outer courts, with the show court reserved for feature matches. The setting alone makes any day worthwhile.
Early April on the Riviera is mild and can bring spring showers on the clay. The venue's sea-view terraces are a highlight in themselves. It pairs naturally with Monaco, Nice and the Côte d'Azur.
